In these Mountains

The air is different here. The quiet, the chill
Sun sets and the moon rises
the stars, a vast and twinkling roof,
suspended above
The trees, their massive silhouettes
Our fire is a welcome respite,
as the night envelopes us
My soul has needed this silence
No demanding voices
or concrete and traffic
These mountains don’t care
hold no grudges
This Forest, ever growing
Knowing not of the internet
and human depravity
Here I ground to the earth
Breath freely, deeply
In these mountains I love
Green Mountains, my blood
How do I love thee,
Vermont
