Freedom

By: E.A. Rourke

For the first time in months, today, I felt free.

As I walked about the waterfront and bike trail in Bristol, RI, I noticed a sea of faces that were not obscured by masks.

I, once again, was able to distinguish individual faces, smiles, and I finally felt normal.

It has been so long since I saw a majority of people NOT wearing a wet diaper over their face.

The joy I saw in their eyes, too, was not to be overlooked.

We are happier when we are free.

This is our natural state of being. We are stronger when we are free.

Let's not forget this.

Let's not blindly exchange our freedom for fear, pretending outwardly that we got a bargain, and knowing inwardly that we were hustled.
